As a professional housekeeper, many of my amazing clients ask for details on how our Atlanta housekeeping team gets the job done so well. Deep cleaning your home, in general, is an intensive job and a deep cleaning of the stove and oven goes beyond the regular wiping of spills. It's a thorough approach to eliminate hidden dirt, grime, and food that accumulates over time. Let’s learn the clean team’s step-by-step process to achieving a spotless stove.

What is Deep Cleaning?

You may wonder, what IS deep cleaning? Deep cleaning your home is a meticulous process aimed at reaching every nook and cranny of your living space. It involves more than just surface cleaning and tackles hidden areas that are often overlooked during routine cleaning. Deep cleaning is typically done on a seasonal or annual basis and is essential for maintaining a healthy and comfortable living environment.

Why is Deep Cleaning your Stove/Oven Important?

Giving your stove and oven a good, deep clean isn't just about keeping things spick and span—it's about making your kitchen a healthier and happier place. All those spilled sauces, grease splatters, and baked-on messes can turn into a playground for bacteria and weird smells. Regular deep cleaning not only kicks these issues to the curb but also helps your appliances work better and last longer. A well-maintained stove and oven cook more evenly, reduce the risk of grease-related fires, and just make your kitchen feel more inviting. Also, hidden food particles behind or underneath stove will unfortunately invite critters to dinner.

Let’s Get It Started

Before diving in we need the right tools and cleaners necessary to get the job done. Our clean team favorites include an effective eco-friendly degreaser or all-purpose cleaner, steel wool (grade 0000 only), scrub brush, microfiber cloths, toothbrush and a pumice stone. Yes, STONE. This tool is key in a fast oven deep clean. We recommend spraying the oven before cleaning the stovetop! Here are the steps for deep cleaning your stove.

  • Remove Burner Grates and Drip Pans:

  • Take off burner grates and drip pans (if removable).

  • Soak them in warm, soapy water to loosen grease and food.

  • Scrub with a scrub brush to remove stubborn stains.

Clean Stovetop:

  • Spray all-purpose or degreaser all over (including knobs)

  • Let the sit for at least 10 minutes to break down grease.

  • Gently scrub with scrub daddy (our preference).

  • Wipe down the stovetop with a damp microfiber cloth.

  • Use toothbrush to clean crevices

Inside the oven:

If you have a self-cleaning oven, I would recommend NOT using this feature. This can damage your oven and poses a major fire risk.

To clean, first:

  • Remove racks and soak in soapy water or use your handy pumice stone to quickly scrub burn marks away.

  • Grab your all-purpose spray or degreaser and spray oven liberally

  • Allow the cleaner to work (at least 20 minutes. Work on stovetop to maximize your time)

  • Use damp microfiber to wipe away what you can

  • Use steel wool (0000) and a WET pumice stone for tough spots

  • Wipe down with a clean damp cloth

Maintaining a Deep-Cleaned Stove

Now that your stove is sparkling clean, implement a few habits to maintain its pristine condition.

Wipe Down Regularly and Clean Spills Promptly:

- After each use, wipe down the stovetop with a damp cloth to prevent the buildup of grease and spills.

Use Burner Covers and Gap Covers:

-For an electric stove, consider investing in burner covers to protect your stove from spills and stains. Gap covers are a lifesaver and prevent food and spills from getting trapped between range and counters. These can be easily removed and cleaned.

Try Oven Liners to Prevent Heavy-duty Cleaning:

-Oven liners are so helpful in making cleaning up easier. Being inexpensive is just as added bonus.
