Finding Meaning in Cleaning: Give Back Program
In the world of business, where making money usually takes the front seat, there's something really special about giving back to your community. While running a cleaning service, I came across many people that felt shame because of the state of their home. The truth is, you’re allowed to not enjoy cleaning and clutter adds up fast. I began the give back cleaning program 2 months into starting a cleaning service. I met someone who could not physically clean their home, heard their story and that was it. Providing free cleanings to cancer patients and folks in need has turned into one of the most fulfilling things I do. I want to share with you why this means so much to me, and the story that got me started on this path.
Several years ago, my life was a mess, literally. My home was a total disaster. It was a mess that seemed impossible to clean up, and it mirrored the chaos I was feeling inside. I was overwhelmed and didn't even know how to start cleaning up. It was like I'd hit a wall mentally.
The clutter in my home was taking a toll on my mental health. I felt like I had lost control of my own life. That's when I realized that I needed help, just like so many people who feel swamped by life's challenges.
One day, a close friend, who knew what I was going through, decided to lend a hand. Together, we tackled the mess in my house as a team. What happened next was incredible. With their support, we cleared away the mess, and it was like a fog lifting from my mind. As the clutter disappeared, so did the weight on my shoulders. I felt like I was taking back control of my life, and I found a sense of clarity I hadn't had in a long time.
This experience changed me profoundly. I realized how much having a clean and organized space can impact your mental well-being. It's not just about having a tidy space; it's about creating an environment where you can feel peaceful and calm. It's about getting a fresh start, a clean slate for your mind to heal and flourish.
With this new understanding, I decided to start a cleaning service to make a positive difference in the lives of others. I started by offering free cleaning services to cancer patients who were going through incredibly tough times. Cancer treatment can be exhausting and emotionally draining, and I wanted to give these folks a clean and comfortable space to help in their recovery.
Word got out about our free cleaning services for cancer patients, and the response was incredible. When I could not afford to continue to have 5 or 6 free cleanings a month, a surprise donation came in from a generous customer and I was shocked others wanted to support the cause. Thanks to their help, we were able to extend our services to other people facing tough situations, from those dealing with chronic illnesses to those just hit by life.
Providing free cleanings to those in need has become the heart of my cleaning service. It's not just about cleaning houses; it's about bringing hope back, reducing stress, and creating an environment where healing can happen. The memory of my own struggle with clutter and the mental block it created keeps me motivated to make a positive impact in the lives of others. With every cleaning our clean team provides, we also leave a free Weekly Cleaning Schedule that was curated by our team. Following a routine can really help us stay on top of our cleaning tasks.
In the end, Saturday Morning Clean’s mission to give back through free cleanings has made myna my team’s lives so much richer. It's a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a huge difference in people's lives. We aim to bring cleanliness, comfort, and a sense of control to those who need it most, and in doing so, we get to experience the true meaning of community support and empathy. We serve Metro Atlanta, Gwinnett County, Fulton County, Dekalb County & more. If you are interested, you can donate here. And if you know of anyone that would benefit from having a clean and organized home, please tell us about them.
