Do You Need to Clean Your Kitchen Sink?

Christmas is over and the first thing on our list to clean is the kitchen sink. Perhaps the most used fixture in the kitchen you simply CANNOT ignore cleaning the sink regularly. We tend to forget to run the garbage disposal and dishes magically pile up, leaving leftover food in places they don’t belong.

But we’re here to help. We have simple instructions on adding your kitchen sink to your weekly cleaning schedule! The first step is of course clearing your kitchen sink of hot chocolate mugs, leftover cornbread dressing, delicious cranberry sauce….sorry….Christmas dinner flashback. But yes, clear your sink so we’re starting fresh! NEXT. Grab you a pair of reusable gloves and let’s get readyyyyy……

Kitchen sink cleaning

Depending if you have granite, stainless steel or another type of sink the instructions may differ but generally these cleaners are safe for all of the above. We have a great DIY Soft Scrub recipe but a simple Castile or dish soap is perfectly safe to clean your kitchen sink. The importance of your cleaning agent cannot be ignored. Bleach can alter finish and possibly leave behind toxic residue even if it is dry.

Now back to our tools:

  • Castile Soap or Soft Scrub

  • Microfiber towel or Scrub Brush

  • Baking soda

  • Huck Towel

Put your cleaner in your sink bowl and start scrubbing. The cover to your faucet and drain flaps tends to get really gross so maybe save that step for last. Make sure to scrub faucet, knobs and sprayer to ensure all surfaces are properly clean and sanitized. And added step we love is to add lemons (yes, REAL lemons) to your garbage disposal. We have a simple ice/lemon recipe on our Instagram. Check it out here! Run your disposal while running water down the drain. This is the perfect time to clean the drain flaps, also. Pro Tip: rinse your towel or scrub brush regularly while cleaning. Lastly, grab your huck towel and dry all surfaces, faucet, & sprayer.
